New Integrated MSc-Phd course at SCIS, Monsoon 2015 , please apply

The mission of CCBB is to provide a national level facility and expertise in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. The Centre is actively involved in Human Resource Development via Teaching & Research. The Centre was setup in 1989 under Biotechnology Information System Programme funded by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.

The original objective of the center was to provide information to the researchers in Northern Region. In the first decade the Centre assisted biologists by providing bibliographic references with abstracts, retrieving sequences and structural data, analyzing the sequences and structural data, imparting skills in bioinformatics and providing computational facilities for research purposes in any area of bioinformatics. Since 2000, the starting of School of Computational and Integrative Sciences SCIS ( Earlier name SIT), the center (BIC) was a part of the school and following courses offered :
* Advanced Post Graduate Diploma in Bioinformatics.  ( 2000 - 2006)
* Masters in Technology Program in Computational and Systems Biology (2006 - 2014)
* Direct Ph.D. program in Bioinformatics
* Pre-Ph.D Program in Bioinformatics (2008 ....)

Presently ,The School of Computational and Integrative Sciences (SCIS) is involved in research and teaching programs in areas which are highly interdisciplinary in nature. The major aim of our school is to integrate computational and analytical tools and techniques from different branches of sciences and apply them to get deeper insights into some of the problems which are not hitherto attempted. The school's academic and research programs are currently structured and focused on the core area of Computational and Systems Biology and gradually emphasis is being laid on developing challengin field in Complex Systems.

Department of Biotechnology (Govt. of India) has continued to support our school as a “Centre of Excellence (COE)” in Bioinformatics since 2002. Since then the center has embarked on research and development in the broader area of Computational and Systems Biology. Faculties and students are currently pursuing teaching & research in diverse fields such as Comparative Genomics, Structural Biology and in silico drug design, Biological Evolution, Biomolecular Simulations, data mining and analysis of large scale data, biophysics, systems biology, robotics, complex systems , Massive Modelling, Pattern recognition and artificial intelligence.

New Initiative :

In addition to Direct PhD and Pre-PhD SCIS is offering from academic year 2015 ,an integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. degree in Computational and Integrative Sciences with a specialization in either Computational Biology or Complex Systems. The Computational Biology stream will have equivalence to the M.Sc. in Bioinformatics, while the Complex Systems stream will have equivalence to the M.Sc. in Physical Sciences. Additionally, SCIS also offers admission to its Pre-Ph.D. and Direct Ph.D. Programmes in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics. The School has encouraged intake from multiple disciplines into these Programmes - Information Technology, Engineering Sciences, Bioinformatics, the Life Sciences/Biotechnology, the Physical and Chemical Sciences, among others.
The centre also offers :
Workshops/Seminars /Conferences
Summer training program
Short term workshops in Bioinformatics to retrain scientists
Credit courses for regular students of the University acroos other schools.
